The Body Shop ALL-IN-ONE BB CREAM

Today I got the chance test drive the newly launched The Body Shop's (TBS) ALL-IN-ONE BB Cream. The shop, until this entry posted has only launched shade number 2 and 3. The one I'm reviewing today is shade number 1. According to TBS, shade number 1 will be available end of February this year!

I got this from a friend who just came back from the Netherlands. Now, my skin tone most of the time is medium to tan.  Depends on the make up brand. Max Factor Second Skin, I'm using the shade Golden, and as for BareMinerals, I can be both Medium Tan or Golden Tan.

I'm liking the tube shape and colours. I think it looked simple yet sophisticated and young. Silver,  It looked luxurious and cute at the same time. The tube comes in one size 25ml, which is feels like a tiny bit. But as for many BB Creams, a little goes a long way.

Let's see the ingredients:

Aqua (Solvent/Diluent), Isohexadecane (Emollient/Solvent), Hydrogenated Polydecene (Skin Conditioning Agent), Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate (Skin Conditioning Agent/Emollient), Ethylhexyl Palmitate (Skin Conditioning Agent), Glycerin (Humectant), Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil (Skin Conditioning Agent), Hydrogenated Castor Oil (Emollient), Mica (Opacifier), Phenethyl Alcohol (Fragrance Ingredient), Magnesium Sulfate (Absorbent/Bulking Agent), Sodium Chloride (Viscosity Modifier), Glyceryl Caprylate (Skin Conditioning Agent), Tocopheryl Acetate (Antioxidant), Polyester-1 (Film Former), Silica Dimethyl Silylate (Binder/Viscosity Modifier), Triethoxycaprylylsilane (Binder), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Skin Conditioning Agent), Tocopherol (Antioxidant), Glycine Soja Oil (Emollient/Skin Conditioner). [+/- CI 77891 (Colour), CI 77492 (Colour), CI 77491 (Colour), CI 77499 (Colour)].

This shade from TBS is intended for fair skin.  However, this cream promised to change colours according to your skin tone. It says on the tube "colours-adapting tinted cream"... And it does exactly like what it says

The texture is both gel and liquid-ish. It is not runny. It is white. It is very very white!  It may not looked obvious in the picture but, it has a small subtle black beads.  I suppose it's the capsules that contain "colour adapting" pigments

After softly blending, it slowly turns in to a more... decent color. Then it slowly turns nude.

Keep blending and it turns more like my skin tone. So it does live up to its claim : colour adapt

See the difference? My hands looked brighter. It is not whiter, but brighter.  Do bare in mind that my arms has very very different colour with my face and neck. This is due to outdoors exercises with minimal sun block. Kids do not do this at home. :)

I applied a small amount (accordingly to the how to use instruction on TBS website) this on my very oily skin in a beautiful Sunday afternoon, to go out on a coffee break with my friends at Liberica, Kemang.  Do bare in mind that it has a strong smell, in which I think comes from Marula Oil, its main ingredient.  I personally find the smell is quite interesting and it does not bother me at all. For some who are quite sensitive to smell... Then this might came a bit annoying.

See the breakouts? That's from trial a local brand BB Cream and powder. So full of regret.

As you can see, that the coverage is very sheer and does not cover my imperfections. Because my skin is very oily, I put loose powder on top of it. Hoping that it will help with the shine and keep the cream in place.

My blazing red acne is covered lightly by the BB Cream and slightly brighter

So I took it hang out. At around 2 hours after the application, it started to melt. Leaves my face, not dewy but oily. Especially around my nose.

Final words...

So let's see their product DEscription

Our new All-In-One BB cream transforms from a white cream to suit your skin tone. Pigment-filled capsules burst when applied to the skin, releasing the colour inside. Just blend for a perfect match and an even, undetectable finish. It’s make-up and skincare in one.
  • Adapts to your skin tone
  • Light to medium coverage
  • Even finish
  • 24-hour hydration
  • Non-clogging
Yes it does exactly what it says, "transform from a white cream to suit you skin tone"; "pigment-filled capsules" is noticeable, you can actually see and feel the tiny capsules and it feels like little beads for scrubs but a very very very soft scrub. It does "releases the colour inside". It does has an "undetectable finish", this is literal... I don't look like, I'm wearing the BB cream at all, but my skin looked a little bit brighter. However, It does not give light to medium, it gives sheer coverage.

I don't think that it will work for those with oily skin like mine nor for combination skin. However, if you have a dry to very dry skin condition and looking for something very natural then I think this product will suit you best

My tip if you're unsure:
The BAs at TBS are very very nice (at least the ones at Pondok Indah Mall and Cilandak Town Square). Try the BB Cream, get your shade matched, then go out and do your thing for two to three hours.  In a few hours you will see, whether you liked it or not then you can decide :).  Now this is one of the awesome thing about TBS, you are can get a make over without having to buy their products first! Nice, huh :) - Always LOVE their attitude!

Most beauty & make up brands feel quite reluctant to do that. I hate it and I don't think it's fair for the consumer. What if the make up does not suit you? What if the color does not match? And you can't refund. So I gotta give credit to TBS for having such a friendly and pleasant attitude. Ow and I also love their new store concept at PIM, got good vibes every time I came in.

Hei, if you're like me, don't like to trying stuff in a make up store then don't bother. Just get your shade matched and buy. The price is IDR179, it won't break your bank.

Let me know if you have tried this product. I want to know your how well did it go on you.

XO, Medina
